Holidays!!!

I tend to ramble in my posts often bordering on the whimsical.... so I have noticed in my previous few blog posts....

Well, lets change the tone of that somberness with this post about holidays!!! Yay!!! Who in the world does not like holidays!!!

Here in the US, the holiday season of Nov - Dec is sacrosanct. People plan for this almost a year in advance, i.e. as soon as they come back the previous holiday they start planning for the next, talk about having something to look forward for.... [hehehe]

One of the things that I like about the US holidays is that all the holidays fall conveniently on Fridays or Mondays and if for some reason they fall on a Tuesday or a Thursday then oh boy its a bonanza as that's a guaranteed extended weekend. The best part about the holidays is that nobody is expected to work. Whew!!! coming from a country and corporate culture where even the notion of asking for a holiday is a taboo this is a refreshing and welcome change.

So as the office go into a shutdown mode for the holiday, the retailers are more excited than anybody. So many deals, so many discounts, its as if everybody in the country saves up through the year for this time of the year. Talk about motivation...

This year was my first experience at a mall on Thanksgiving day and boy wasn't I surprised, the sheer amount of stuff being sold and the pace at which it was being sold was mindboggling. Coming from a country with a huge population, the amount of crowds that I saw at the store was nothing less than a garba gathering in Gujarat or a Ganapati miravnuk in Mumbai...

Looking at the people carting LCD TVs, clothes, household items and all the things up for sale, it struck me that it was nothing less than a garba or miravnuk for the people in US. This is a celebration!!!

So what is your experience this holiday??
