Does Democracry Truly Work?
I have been wondering about this for long now and am nowhere closer to finding a answer... How do you device if Democracy is truly serving the principles that it is bound by. Also I find this point interesting, if the country is Democracy how do you have a party talking about Communism in main stream politics?
India has traditionally been a multiparty democracy, I not sure that this system works... For long Congress has been the ruling party of India, the party holds the reigns to power not because it is popular or people vote for it, but because there is no opposition, people vote for the many multiparties clamoring for non-Congress votes that there is no effective opposition.
Other than fracturing the peoples mandate how does multi party democracy work? Since the time coalation goverments came into picture, the only time things get done in the Parliament are when the leaders are troubled.
We like to call ourselves progressive, pray tell me how can we be progressive when even 64 years after independance we judge people on caste/religion not their ability. Our leaders are elected by quotas and reservation not performance and skills.
Politics in India is a fiefdom. Since time immemorial we are used to slavery and being subjects, in the olden days we were subjects to Kings and Emperors, then the Britishers and now our political dynasties.
Syncopathy politics is best observed in India. A person in his mid-life is our Youth Leader. Thought leadership is stagnant, we spout the same ideas of culture and history when challenged. A nation of billion plus and we win only 1 gold in Olympics.
Our government bombards us with "India Shining". I would like to see this India Shining.
The roads are pot holed. Majority of India faces power cuts around 5-9 hrs., Inflation is high at 9-12%. Grains rot in government godowns while children die due to hunger in villages. Naxalism is on high due to people having lost trust in the elected representatives. Ajmal Kasab is still alive, Mining is almost stopped due to cases and corruption, Industrial output is down to 5%, Rupee goes to a new low every day, black money is still a bane for us, Anna Hazare is still fasting for Jan Lokpal and our elected representatives are still dragging their feet on the issue...
