With the advent of the cash rich and money churner IPL making deep inroads into the Indian Cricket, BCCI & players psyche, we seem to have forgotten about the ODI format of the game...
Yes I'm talking about the 50 overs a side match....
For God's sake Indian batsmen, we are playing the World Cup. It's an 50 over format... the opposition remembers it. The bowlers need to bowl 50 overs when India is bowling, but the batsmen seems to be stuck in T20 format.. otherwise how do you explain the bizzare way the most vaunted battling line-up in the world seems to be batting...
Barring the game with Bangladesh, the Indian team has not batted the full quota of 50 overs in any other game... while batting first....kind of boggles the mind.. It's not as if we have been dismissed @ low scores, we just haven't been able to finish well.. we were well on our way to bat SA out of the match when all of a sudden we lost 7 wickets for 29 runs... Are you kidding me?? No team seems to be struggling more against the batting power-play than us.. Why is it so?
We played 49.5 overs against England, 47 overs against SA & now again 49.1 overs against the WI..
All we tied 1 game, lost 1 and the result for the last is still pending..
It's a miracle that we have qualified for the quarters, though it's largely due to the largess of SA & WI which drubbed Bangladesh so bad that their NRR is beyond hope...
The team needs to pull up it's socks if it's wants to win the WC, which looks like a distant dream right now based on the spate of performances seen so far....
Looks like a billion hopes are about to be trashed again.....
