Modi in Madison Square Garden

In a first Narendra Modi arrived in NY, USA to a rock stars reception. The Indian American community turned up in droves to see Modi speak and his  tête-à-tête with the Indian community at Madison Square Ground - capable of seating 20,000 people; was beamed live to the Times Square making it a buzzing beehive of Indian diaspora throughout the day. Modi is a very articulate and focused person, and more importantly he knows the right way of connecting with people.

He can gauge the pulse of the people and he knows what connects with the people, I do not remember seeing any leader in the past other than the those from the freedom struggle who resonated and connected with people at such a very basic level. Like or don't like him, but you cannot ignore him at all. Modi announced several sops for the Indian community like PIO people getting lifetime visas, Visa on arrival for Americans in India, reduction in the number of cumbersome foreign laws pertaing to PIO and OIC in particular.

He also launched his vision of what he wants for the country - a dream of Clean India (Swatch Bharat). That he can talk about building clean toilets for his countrymen from the top of Red Fort and in front of an international diaspora shows his commitment to the dream. Modi also talked about building an India where every Indian family has an house of it own. This is his vision for India's 75th year of independence. He certainly has the skills and the determination to pull it off but what Modi rightly asks for from every Indian is their help in achieving the dreams. As Modi is fond of saying,

अगर सवा सौ करोड़ भारतीय एक कदम चलेंगे तोह भारत देश सवा सौ करोड़ कदम आगे बढेगा

What he wants and India needs is little bit of help from every Indian in India in a proactive and meaningful way to better the country. It could be something as simple as maintaining personal hygiene and not littering or something more bigger like cleaning up the streets where it is dirty every little bit helps and every little bit goes towards building a better country.. What say brothers and sisters?

Bbye....
