Turmoil!!!!

Sanjay Dutt Sentenced to 5 years jail - Screams the headlines from almost all the newspapers. The film fraternity, political society and indeed even the common man are showing their solidarity with the plagued actor by asking or rather screaming for him to be pardoned by the Governor. The reason: he has suffered enough in these 20 years.

Excuse ME!!! Come again!!! Did I hear that right?? Yes the common opinion is that Sanjay Dutt has suffered enough in the last 20 years... ohhh!!! and how has he suffered, by shooting at foreign locations, marrying and starting a family. Running a successful business and not to forget raking in crores by acting in movies. Wow what suffering?

People in India seem to be lacking collective common sense most of the times. The things that our esteemed leaders and society members spout at times makes me wonder if they are being absurd on purpose or are they so far removed from reality that they really live in a make believe world. The law of the land was established for a purpose and if somebody breaks the law then they ought to be punished irrespective of who they are.. PERIOD.... Shame though that it does not happen frequently enough....

Strangely though this same sense of outrage and sympathy seems to be lacking for Zabirunnisa whose case should be actually looked into as she's facing multiple health problems. But the media and society seems to be largely mum on the issue or even more apathetic than usual...

In all this hoopahula surrounding the life of a superstar everybody seems to be forgetting that Maharashtra is facing the worst drought it has faced in years with an acute scarcity of water. Ironic isn't it? The state which has spent the most amount of money on waterworks and irrigation related projects is facing such a situation - exactly the one it planned to avoid. So the question that needs to be asked here is if there is water shortage inspite of spending so much money, then what was the money spent on?? Well it's not too difficult to image... is it?

Amid all this gloom read the inspiring story of Hirwe Bazar on Yahoo!!! Now that is the kind of initiative that needs to be taken at village level in India. Truly the Deputy Sarpanch Popat Pawar has done a remarkable job in turning around an arid village into a lush green ecosystem Sad to see thought that the news about such amazing work has been totally ignored by the print media and is not being highlighted at all...

But then in todays world... Tragedy.. either Real or Make believe sells every thing else can go hang....

  1. Rightly said Gopal. I feel, Media in India is ruled by the people with power/money. Unfortunate but true!

Thats why Social media is gaining importance amongst young people. We may not be able to make that much of an impact as Print or TV Media, but still better off!

That said, well written story about Sanju baba and Pawar baba! :)

  2. Hehe!! Gopal replies to Gopal... :)

Yes I agree with you. Media today instead of being a system of checks and balances has joined in with those in power and instead of being a unbiased system has become available to sale for the highest bidders.

Today Media houses have become lobbying firms for the political parties. There is no neutral source in India today apart from the Judiciary....
