Digital Stalking -- Where's my Privacy?

Did you know that you are being stalked across the internet? Your data is being tracked to build a profile on you and most importantly there is nothing you can do about it.

Check out this talk given by Gary Kovacs CEO of Mozilla on how your privacy is being encroached on the internet without you being aware of it? Don't believe it? Install Collusion Add-on in Firefox and see it for yourself.

Here's the link for the video on TED Talks --> TED Talks:: Tracking The Trackers by Gary Kovacs

My Sample Collusion Data
Posted above is my sample Collusion Data. The sphere's highlighted in Blue are the sites that I have opened and the ones shaded in gray are those which are currently tracking my online movements. Note that for the 3 sites that I have visited there are a total of 7 sites which I haven't visited that are tracking my data. This is what is scary!!!!!!!!

See the video and be aware, there is always somebody watching your every more and more importantly the memory of the Internet is forever. Be careful and most importantly Be Aware!!!!!!!

    1. Yes Amit if definately will be a start.

Its more about being aware of what needs to be done to protect your privacy on the internet. The problem is with traditional data collection mechanisms you know who is collecting your data and for what? But in the digital world, there is no such information available and more important no oversight.

In the video referred, Gary Kovacs mentions that information profiling is an organized business and the top companies that are involved in this business are making more than 39 bn $ per annum. Now that is a huge amount of money being earned through my personal data and God only knows how?

This is something that really scares me and makes me nervous about surfing on the internet.

  3. Thanks Amit for the link. It makes a fascinating read. I have always wondered what happens to the data that is generated and stored all through the web.

Just imagine the total amount of data that would be on the web so far.. The sheer scale is mind-boggling.
