Farce -- 35 lacs Rs. for Toilets, 26 Rs. for livelihood

The Planning Commission of India displayed its apathy and carelessness to the very people it is supposed to help.

A few months back there was a furor when the Planning Commission released its report defining poverty. The commission set the poverty rate as Rs. 32 in urban centers and Rs. 26 in rural.

This means that as per the planning commission of India a person earning more than Rs. 32 in urban centers cannot be classified as poor and thus will not be eligible for the Government sops.

This inane piece of policy was not justified by any examples. How the commission arrived at this figure is a mystery and will remain so until Mr. Ahluwalia decides to educate us ignorant masses.

Now that the Planning Commission had justified its continued existence, the commission then spent Rs. 35 lacs on renovating just two toilets. 35 lacs!!!!!! People can buy a 2 BHK flat in that amount or 1,09,375 people can be brought up below poverty line in that amount using the PCI's own guideline.

This fact came to light when an RTI application filed on the expenses of the Planning Commission was answered.

That' s not all..... These posh toilets apparently have access system (card readers) which means they are not for people like you and me - the general public, but only for those who have the card which access to the systems. Talk about protecting the potty.

Can Mr. Ahluwalia please explain what is so important about the potty of a few bureauocrats that nothing less than an access controlled, renovated 35 lac Rs toilet would do?

The sheer incompetence, the lethargy and the policy emptiness of the Planning Commission of India is on show with this whole incident. If the PCI can't do anything worthwhile then I think its time to shut it down.

The people of India can do without these bureauocrats who like leeches just suck blood and do nothing else.
