Money For Thought

What do you call a society which values money more than morals, greed more than selflessness? Amoral? Capitalist?

Episode 3 of SJ dealt with dowry and its associated malice. Spare a thought as to what brought this greed to the forefront? Certainly not the high cost of living. Most of the people who indulge in such practices are well off. I mean seriously wanting dowry even after earning 35 lacs per annum.

Dowry or no dowry is a personal preference where change can be brought about in a person's thinking. But basing an entire society on capitalism is a bad idea in itself. We have moved away from the morals of our forefathers and started aping a culture that is more and more fed up of its capitalist avarice and looking more towards our culture and best practices for salvation.

So why are we mindlessly throwing away a generation of values for something as basic as money? It's a question that needs to be pondered on and an answer that needs to be found at the earliest.

I'm not against using money as a tool to ease your life, but that is where the importance of money should be as a tool not as a goal. A goal is worthy ambition; don't cheapen it by just making it all about money.
