Avengers

Just back from watching Avengers and wanna blog while the thoughts from the movie are still fresh in my mind. The first in the Marvel franchise sporting more than 2 Marvel heroes, the AVENGERS has an ensemble star cast. Too many stars means there is not much screen time for character development and so on... Marvel and Paramount were aware of this fact a long time since... hence each of the superheroes in the movies has a back story which has been told in the previous releases like Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Iron Man 1 & Iron Man 2...

While the movie can be seen as a standalone film, it will make a lot of sense if people have watched the previous films to get an idea as to what S.H.I.E.L.D and AVENGERS is all about.

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury plays his role with an understate elegance. He passive-aggressive and no holds barred personality comes to fore while leading a group of headstrong individuals and getting them to work together with each other.

Most of the characters like Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk are alpha males and as such unused to taking orders from somebody else of working cohesively as a unit. A fact which is taken advantage of by the bad guys, in this case E.T's who are very different and very less likable as compared to the Steven Spielberg version.

The first half of the movie sets things up nicely for the second half where out beleaguered team fights outstanding odds to come out a victors.

The special effects is awesome and looks amazingly good on 3D. Marvel and Paramount have a winner in their hands if played rightly. Already there are talks about a series being spawned out of it in parallel with the other franchises active so far.... the story line has also been kept open ended to ensure the same. If the quality of the effects and production work is anything to go by; I wholehearted approve of a sequel or a series.....

An out and out entertainer which holds no prisoners. If you like action and don't care much for the story line then this movie is definitely the one for you.
