Yawn... F-1

I have followed F-1 for quite some time now and year on year have watched the sport; which was supposed to be a frontier of techonolgy and research become nothing more than a commericial venture.

From the original 16 races in 2000, the number of races came up to a whopping 19 this year, with the teams criscrossing the entire globe in the process. A lot in inane rule changes & the withdrawal of couple of good solid manufacturers like Toyota & Honda has seen the sport lose a lot of it's sheen.

No longer does the merit count, what counts is how you can tweak and manipulate the system to win. The F-1 has become a circus with the eccentric Bernie Ecclestone playing the role of ringmaster to the T.

Races have become a boring chore to watch, there is no overtaking, no dramtic pit lane strategy, no out of the box racing barring a couple of folks. It's as if the race is over once the first lap is done. The drivers settle in their groove and barring few occasions, the race appears to be done in the first 10 laps at the most...

With Indian GP being added for the first time this season, it looks to be seen how the masses here will receive a sport that is famous for being expensive. It may work in the short term, but the long term prospects look bleak barring rejuvination in the sport itself.

Right now things are mundane, to ordinary to keep me interested...

Looks like F-1 is dying a slow death...

  1. I hope this time there is something exciting in F1. Seems like the spark in F1 is slowly fizzing out.

  2. It's turning more into a cash cow rather than a technological endeavor...
