Crusade Against Corruption

Anna Hazare - eminent social activist from India with a spotlessly clean image has parked himself in Jantar Mantar in Delhi on an fast to death in favor of the Jan LokPal Bill,  a new law drafted by civil society to combat the rising menance of corruption.

The government's answer to this is to appoint a committee of ministers to look into drafting an anti-corruptio bill. The same ministers who are involved in scams worth millions if not billions of dollars. The tipping point is the absolute insistence of the government that the civil society or the people cannot draft a law. The watered down version of the government's ani-corruption bill called the LokPal bill is nothing but a sham.

The punitive policies under this bill is a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 5 years of imprisonment for the corrupt officials. Also the sticking point is that the investigation will be completely done by the government officials themselves.

The Jan LokPal Bill on the other hand calls for an independant LokPals in the central level & LokaYukta's @ state level. The turnaround time for any case will not be more than 2 years with a minimum sentence of 5 years & a maximum of life imprisonment with confistication of assests for the convicted person. This offers a effective deterent to corruption.
