My Take - Political India

India has had this problem of corruption, putting personal needs before the needs of the masses by the people in power for ages. Be it a princely state or King who sold their fiefdom to the British or be in a current politician who sold spectrum to his cronies. This problem has been there historically

The current situation in the country is no different. The root of all problems in the country happens to be our consititution which allows for multi party democracy. I don't like this system, this has caused to country to be fractured into multiple political parties on the basis of religion, caste, sub-caste, language, regionalism. In essence this has split the unity of the entire country.

I would like our country to follow the US system of democracy, it was founded on the Declaration of Independance guranteeing the basic rights to the people. There are only 2 major political parties The Republicans & The Democrats overseen by a strong Congress. This creates a lot less confusion in the minds of the people. You can elect one party for a term of 4 years and if it does not work you can vote for the other. Also a person can hold the highest office maximum for 2 terms only of 4 years each, this to me is the best of the system, unlike our country where politicans hang on to their offices indefinately.

We have retirement ages set at 60 for all aspects of the society except for the Ministry. You can be of any age and still get elected as the PM of the country. What sham?? Is it any wonder that we are being ruled by an ageing class who don't want the youth to take their rightful place and lead the nation into the next phase of growth.

We have mandatory education qualifications for the least of the posts, but our politicians being uneducated is ok with us. How can an illiterate person without even the basic skills be allowed to compete & frame laws escapes me completely? Is it any wonder that the country is divided?

From Kashmir to Kanyakumari we have problem in every which state. The highest offices in the country, the seats in the parliament are handed out by the political parties as fiefdoms, is this the freedom for which fought for almost 190 years?

I think we were better off under the British, they looted the country for only 1 lac crores in their 200 years of rule, but out so called leaders have looted this country for more than 70 lac crores in a mere 60 years. Talk about competition.....

So why do we allow this to happen? The politics across India has fragmented into a region, religion and caste based system where people are limiting themselves to similar parameters. What we are losing out in this myopic view is the long term stability of the country.

Never has the north-south divide been so apparent, no has been the east-west divide. Never have we been so apathetic. Corporate India is growing strong, economically we have become a force to reckon with, not it's time to embrace a united philosophy on the political front and become a nation instead of a coalition of states.
