It's time to grow a spine

I dread the mornings, every morning you open the newspapers and staring in your face is come new scam or corruption happening in the country. It's as if it is an open season on corruption.

Who say's that the country lacks money? You just have to take a look at some of the declarations being filed by our politicians while contesting the elections, everybody is a multi-millionaire. How they came to become a multi-millionaire is a question that can get you killed if asked.

Consider this:

  1. Suresh Kalmadi & company costed us close to Rs. 8000/- crores in hosting an event that was vilified the world over. Kalmadi boasted that the CWG will put the Beijing Olympics to shame. It did too, but not for the right reasons. An entire page in Wikipedia is alloted for just the concerns and controversies. After all this Mr. Kalamadi has the audacity to claim that there was nothing wrong in what he did & he was just following the proper process. So it's only the people of the country who should follow the law and not the politicians running the country is it Mr. Kalmadi?
  2. Hasan Ali a well known multi-millionaire stud farm owner from Pune is in news for stashing close to 8 bn $ in Swiss bank accounts. The ED & IT authorities are trying to recover tax penalty from him. Apparently Mr. Ali is an front for a ex-CM lady politico from south state. No wonder the case is still meandering  with Mr. Ali roaming the country scott-free.
  3. Our esteemed rules & policy following ex-telecom minister Mr. A Raja is supposed to have received close to Rs. 3000/- crores in kickbacks for providing spectrum to companies never even heard of. Is it only the common man who need to have the required qualifications and experience while applying for the job? Mr. Raja shameless as he is still has the audacity to claim that he is being targetted because he's a Dalit. Ohh.. so now you are a Dalit, but you were not one while grabbing land from the same Dalits in your hometown. Talk about double standards.
  4. With the politicians setting the standards can the investigating agencies be far behind? Our toothless tigers, also called the CBI have spent over 250 crores of tax payers money investigating the Bofors kickback of 64 crores received by Mr. Ottavio Quattorochi. It would have been money well spent if they would have been able to prosecute him or atleast get the 64 crores back with interest. Since that did not happen, it's tax payers money down the drain on an investigation that yielded nothing.
I just love the way the government and the officials play fast and loose with the exchequre, most of which is funded by the tax paying common man. After all this the government says it does not have money for funding the growth and has to raise the taxes again. So who's gonna be affected?? You got it right.. It's gonna be us.

So what's stopping the government from prosecuting these individuals to the fullest extent of the law? It's the same excuse as ever.. Coalition Politics.

Some black money facts about India taken from Wikipedia:
  • India tops the list for black money in the entire world with almost US$1456 billion in Swiss banks (USD 1.4 trillion approximately) in the form of black money.
  • According to the data provided by the Swiss Banking Association Report (2006), India has more black money than the rest of the world combined.
  • Indian Swiss bank account assets are worth 13 times the country’s national debt.
If you have time take look at the article on Corruption in India in Wikipedia.

Time for an Egypt, Tunisia, Libya in India I think. If the ruling elite is not interested in bringing about the change then the people must.... It's time to grow a spine.
